Principal’s Message for 2020-2021: Welcome Back OLR Eagles!

Dear Parents/Guardians:

On behalf of all of our staff, I’d like to welcome you back to Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Elementary School. I trust that students and their families have enjoyed their summer break and experienced the gift of time to reconnect, refresh and plan for the year ahead. We thank you wholeheartedly for your patience and understanding as our school community, like many of our schools in the YCDSB system, have undertaken the process of school reorganization based on information from the YCDSB Parent re-entry survey to plan for “In person” and “Remote Learning Cohorts.”  As we now finalize our preparations for what will be a very different start to this new academic year, please know that our custodians, Mr. Thai and Mr. Ricci, our secretary, Ms. Palermo, all teachers and support staff have all been working ardently to ensure that all Ministry, YCDSB and York Region Public Health measures have been considered and put into place to address the health and safety of all. All teachers will be involved in GAP closing analysis /lessons/activities as they transition students back to learning in their respective cohorts.

At this time, I would also like to extend warm greetings to our Trustee, J. Wigston, the Area 2 Superintendent, L. Sawicky and the members of our Catholic School Council and thank them for their commitment to student achievement and well-being, school improvement and their efforts to augment parent involvement and engagement this past year. I look forward to working together with them this year to build upon our past achievements. The OLR community also welcomes some new staff members. I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Ms. F. Mino who will be overseeing our music programs for our junior and intermediate grades, as well as, new ESL teacher, Ms. A. Loschiavo and a new Early Childhood Educator, Ms. G. Girardi who will be working with one of our kindergarten classes. At this time, I will not be introducing the full complement of staff due to the current school structure reorganization process that is still underway. This will appear in October’s school newsletter.

At OLR, we endeavour to provide students with one constant, a safe and welcoming learning environment and look forward to a year of new learning together! Wishing everyone a fantastic start to the new school year!

God bless,

W H Kwon
