Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and Families of OLR,
This communication is further to that from our Director of Education, Mr. Domenic Scuglia and the Government of Ontario.
Although the news received recently was not what we hoped for, we are confident that we will continue to work collaboratively to support your child(ren), build community, resilience and hope through our faith.
Please be advised that this message is for all in-person learners at Our Lady of the Rosary CES. Online students who selected that learning modality since the start of the school year and are currently part of their respective Remote Hub Schools will continue with their current remote teachers and schedule(s).
To reiterate, Ontario schools will remain closed until at least January 17, 2022 in an effort to slow the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Ontario. Beginning Wednesday, January 5, 2022, YCDSB classes will pivot to fully remote synchronous learning and all students will continue to access learning through their child’s virtual learning environment.
Important Updates
Please review the following information to help you navigate through this transition:
-
Beginning January 5th, your child is to log on to their teacher’s VLE and our school schedule will remain status quo (school day begins promptly at 8:50 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m.)
-
Attendance will be taken first thing in the morning after live virtual announcements and again after the lunch period at 12:45 pm. Please ensure that students are logged in by 8:50 am into their teacher’s Google Meet/Google Classroom.
-
It is expected that your child will be present and participating in their teacher’s VLE so as to ensure their continued success.
-
It is essential that you continue to report if your child is absent or late using the Safe Arrivals Absence Reporting System. This can be done by using the SchoolMessenger app, phoning 1-855-856-7862, or online at go.schoolmessenger.ca. PLEASE DO NOT PHONE and/or LEAVE A MESSAGE AT THE SCHOOL TO REPORT AN ABSENCE (Note: Safe Arrival Information is also available on our school website).
-
All planned hot lunch programs will be delayed indefinitely and additional information will be communicated at a later time once school re-opens for “in person learning.”
-
Need a Device?
If your child requires a device to access their teacher’s virtual classroom, you may request one by leaving a voicemail with the school office OR by emailing olr@ycdsb.ca. Kindly ensure that you leave your child’s name, teacher, grade and the best way to reach you to confirm receipt of your message. Someone will contact you prior to arrange a date and time for “curbside pick up.”
Need Technical Support?
For the duration of remote learning, if you require technical assistance or support, you are encouraged to visit our Support Centre website http://help.ycdsb.ca/vle
