Anti-Bullying and Positive Climate Week Events and Initiatives at OLR!

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):

Here is a highlight of some of the fantastic things that are happening at Our Lady of the Rosary CES during Anti-Bullying and Positive Climate Week (Nov. 21-27, 2021):

OLR Anti-Bullying Prevention and Kindness Week 2021
  • Ongoing Walking Club for interested primary, junior and intermediate students during the lunch recess. This initiative is overseen by staff members who would like to help supervise and promote healthy living, based on a rotating schedule. The details are as follows:

3 days – Mondays-Primary, Tuesdays-Junior and Wednesdays-Intermediate

Students will walk along Glen Shields to Crooked Stick and back (1.0km)

Students will eat lunch in their class, walk at 12:05 pm (middle recess) and then go straight to their recess yard upon returning to the school. All COVID-19 Protocol in place.

Start day is week of Nov. 8

Students will walk, weather permitting, break during the winter months and resume in the spring once the snow/ice has melted.

  • Sunshine Cards

https://www.sendingsunshine.ca/

Sending Sunshine is a not-for-profit corporation, Sending Sunshine, to try to improve the lives of our beloved and highly valued senior citizens.

Mandate: To connect seniors living in Canada with people from around the globe through the power of the written word, while promoting volunteerism among youth.

  • Students will be sending cards to senior residents in our community who are feeling lonely.
  • Each class will have a dedicated period during the week (religion, art, language) to start their cards.
  • EXTRA: The Grade 8s will be linking up through Google Meet with the kindergarten classes to coordinate their cards together.

  • Gratitude Wall

Gratitude White Wall (in front of the library)

Each class will have an opportunity to write their prompt on the Gratitude Wall, ex. “A strength of mine that I am grateful for…”

For Anti-Bullying and Kindness week, OLR is kick starting this initiative but it will continue all year. Each class will schedule a time to go down to write. Student leads will come to get each class or the group of students who will be going down to write on the wall. A teacher will also be present at the wall.

Each month a new display will go up. The old one will be archived. At the end of the year, we will display all of the white sheets.

  • A Big Shoutout… Initiative in which the daily achievements of our everyday saints across the grades are recognized in the form of a publicized “Big Shout Out” which are communicated and on display.

  • Mr. Kwon’s Virtual Principal read-alouds will continue for our students in kindergarten to Grade 4 on Monday, November 22 and Tuesday, November 23, 2021 with virtual read-alouds of the stories, “Stick and Stone” by Beth Ferry and “Enemy Pie” by Derek Munson.

At OLR, we are looking forward to all of the wonderful ways in which we can promote the importance of having a safe, inclusive and healthy school environment for all of our students!
