Nominations for OLR CSC 2020-2021

Dear OLR Community:

Please make note of the following parent council nominations, which include self-nominations and nominations by other parents for the 2020-2021 Catholic School Council and please join me in congratulating all candidates who have been acclaimed for this year:

  1. Caitlyn Gillard

Biography: I am new with the school and excited to be involved as a member of the school council.

2. Isabel De Sousa

Biography: Hello I have been the CSC chair for the last 3 years and am looking forward to making OLR have another successful year. Thank you to all the parents who have helped me with your countless hours of hard work and donations. We could not have done it without all the staff and OLR families.

Biography provided by parent: Isabel DeSousa is the current chair of our CSC council and has held that position for the last three years. She has dedicated countless hours to helping enrich our children’s school experience. She is loved by staff and students alike. I believe that during these difficult times we need a strong leader and Isabel is just that.

3. Dennis Justin Selvakumar

Biography: Hello, I’m Dennis Justin, a banker by profession and a proud father of two children attending OLR in grades 7 and 3. I’ve been serving in the CSC at OLR for the past 2 years and was the CSC treasurer last year. I’m passionate and keen about all children getting the best environment to develop their knowledge and skills, to equip them face the ever changing world and build an all inclusive, peaceful and just society. I would like to do my bit by participating and serving in the OLR CSC for the academic year 2020-2021.

4. Marie Myrie

Biography: Marie Myrie attended O.L.R. for her entire elementary school experience. Significant outstanding achievements at O.L.R. include public speaking and track and field. After elementary school she would go on to attend Saint Elizabeth Catholic high school where she would maintain a good academic record. Marie gained a scholarship at University of Waterloo, where she majored in Sociology, had achieved a minor in Psychology, Legal Studies and Criminology Options. After graduating with Honors, Marie would go on to work in the criminal justice field. While doing shift work, as an employee with York Regional Police, she acquired her Master’s in Public Policy and Administrative Law. Simultaneously, while completing her MA, Marie achieved a certificate in Justice System Administration. Currently, Marie is raising her son to understand and appreciate the importance of education and gaining knowledge. Marie is currently employed with York Regional Police as a civilian assisting the community, by helping to keep it safe and secure.

5. Koula Sferopoulos

Biography: I work at the school as a support secretary, have been siting on council for 15 years had two children graduate at this school. (YCDSB Employee)

6. Geoff Paterson

Biography: Hello! My name is Geoff Paterson. My wife (Alejandra) and I are the proud parents of our son Liam Paterson-Colina. He is now in Grade 4 at OLR, and loves his school. We have seen him grow by leaps and bounds over the years, thanks to the incredible and dedicated teachers he has had the good fortune of having. We feel a strong connection to Our Lady of the Rosary CES, and to the staff and fellow parents we have come to know. Over the years we have supported the school in different ways. I would like to continue to support the school and community as a member of the Catholic School Council. I believe my background in Administration with the Toronto Public Service, and prior experience as a teacher of English as a Second Language will enable me to contribute positively toward serving on the council. We are grateful to the staff at Our Lady of the Rosary for all their tireless dedication to keeping our children safe and engaged in these difficult times. Thank you, and God Bless!

7. Loretta Bernard

Biography: My career as an RN has been focused on the care of children, first at the Hospital for Sick Children, next in pediatric rehabilitation and finally, in public health. My regular role in public health has involved supporting schools with health promotion and wellness as a manager of School Services. Since March of this year, I have been redeployed to manage a variety of areas supporting the York Region Public Health Covid19 response. After completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, I returned to school for my Master of Education degree which allowed me to blend my experience and interest in health with education. My final project for this graduate degree involved a study related to the implementation of the Comprehensive School Health framework. My son attends OLR and is in grade 7. I have been involved with the Catholic School Council at OLR as a member and volunteer for many years. I would like to continue to support OLR as a committee member on the Catholic School Council for this 2020-2021 school year. Thank you!

8.  Tannia Belvedere

Biography: Tannia Belvedere (Fontaine) has been on parent council for 3 years with the last year as Secretary. She has 2 children (grade 3 and 6) and loves being involved in any after school fundraising or community activity. Tannia does work full time as a Project Manager for a Medical Communications Company planning virtual\live events and medical projects with physicians globally.

9. Daniela Bacchin

Biography: With 20 years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, working at various hospitals, I have great communication skills. I am patient and very interested in the physical and mental well being of the kids and staff at Our Lady of the Rosary. I have been on various committees at the hospital including the ethics committee and most recently am a worker member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee. As a firm believer in the importance of dialogue and transparency you are welcome to voice your questions and concerns.

10. Jessica Cutrone

Biography: My name is Jessica Cutrone and I am a mom of 5, three of which are current OLR students and one who graduated last year. This will be my second year on council . I currently hold the position of co-chair and look forward to working with all other members to help make OLR an even better place for our kids. We are a very strong, family oriented school and I am committed to keeping OLR a safe and happy place for our children .

11. Josie Palermo

Biography: My name is Josie Palermo . I am the head secretary for Our Lady of the Rosary and would like to be the community rep.

12. Elizabeth O

Biography: I have been a member of the OLR CSC for the past four years, actively participating in a number of subcommittees including the Fundraising Committee, Hot Lunch Committee, and BBQ Committee. I enjoy being an active member of the OLR school community and contributing to activities that will enhance our children’s experience at school, both academically and socially. Despite the limitations due to COVID-19 this year, I hope the CSC can work to find creative ways to help make this academic year a fun and stimulating one for our children.

Finally, please note that the first Virtual OLR Catholic School Council Meeting is has been scheduled for Monday, October 19, 2020 starting at 6:30 p.m.

  • All meetings will be conducted virtually, synchronously online using the Google Meet Platform.  Please note that up to 84 members may participate in a Google Meet. Please note that parents in the community may enter the meeting on a first-come-first serve basis, space permitting.  Parents who are unable to enter the Google Meet may listen to the recorded meeting afterwards. The CSC Meetings will be recorded and posted the on the school website and a link to the Google Meet recording will be sent to the school community through a School Messenger Email. This will be maintained by Google for 30 days.
